Criminal Defense Advocates: the legal team, family and community supporters.

For those defendants facing sentencing and incarceration, once detained:

  • Access to medications or medical devices (such as CPAP, eyeglasses, etc.) is necessary:
    • When entering prison for the first time, it is necessary to know whether medications are available (on formulary) or non-formulary (which requires a lengthy request process). Then there are medications that are just not available. Here the defendant may receive a different medication which is at the discretion of the BOP.
  • For those who are medically healthy or have never seen a doctor: now is the time to see a physician for a full physical and, if warranted, seek a mental healthcare professional consult.
  • Are you camp eligible: Federal Prison Camps (FPC) are much different than satellite camps, as satellite camps are associated with higher security facilities.

Having an advocate is crucial, and PPRS Prison Match™ can also help be that advocate along with your attorney. If it’s not included in the PSR, it will not be provided or allowed after the defendant has been incarcerated.

Although not perfect, depending on the prison there may be options for Higher Education (College Correspondence Programs), Occupational or Trades Training along with the availability of Medical and/or Mental Healthcare Treatment.
The PSR influences the BOP’s prison designation process.

Based on the official Presentence Report according to their:

  • Individual healthcare needs,
  • Medication availability and
  • Security requirements.

Further, should the defendant wish to change their future by learning a specific trade or occupation where they have expressed interest, if available a facility match here too can be made.

The BOP’s Designation and Sentence Computation Center (DSCC) determines Medical-Healthcare Designations in addition to the Inmate Security Prison Placement Process.
