INDICTED: When You Know – You Have a Problem
WHITE COLLAR – INDICTED AND FACING PRISON: When You Know – You Have a Problem
Hello, and thank you for tuning into my Video series, INDICTED AND FACING PRISON: NOW WHAT?
My name is Marc Blatstein. In 2006, I was Indicted and pled guilty to a felony. To call this a surreal experience is an understatement.
My goal in this series is to provide you with the crucial information you’ll need to survive and navigate these times. I’ll cover a new topic every day so you can move forward with the Knowledge, Preparation, and Confidence you’ll need to get the best outcome.
- Since you know that the DOJ and Feds have been asking questions, their case against you is mostly complete. With a 98% conviction rate, the odds are that you may be going to prison.
Knowledge is power, and now it’s in your hands. Delaying taking the next step is at your peril. The consequences of inaction can be severe.
- Equally important is hiring a legal team with experience and a proven track record of successfully defending cases like yours. Your future is at stake, and making the right choices now is crucial.
When you learn,
- That there’s a Target letter or a request for you to appear before a grand jury,
- You hear Rumors from colleagues, staff, family, friends, or business associates,
- You get a visit at your home or place of employment
- If days, weeks, or months pass and nothing happens, you still have a problem.
- The DOJ is very deliberate about having abundant information to charge you before they raid your home, office, or both simultaneously. That was how it went with me.
KNOWLEDGE and PREPARATION
- These are crucial to a successful outcome, and the odds are they will include some time in Prison.
- It’s OK to go to trial and lose – all is not lost – Why?
Preparation for your eventual interview
- Character Reference Letters:
- For someone who has known you for a long time, this “was so out of character.”
- Family support letters where they will hold you accountable- will not let you stray into the gray zone.
- An employer willing to hire you after your release due to your Character and Skills – is a Great Letter.
Do not spend the days, weeks, or months waiting at home until sentencing.
- Getting a job (that pays anything), saving some $$ to pay down Restitution at sentencing – saving $100/ month working,
- Volunteering, or
- Taking care of a relative is what the judge wants to hear
- They do not want to hear that you’ve been at home watching TV or depressed.
- Don’t shop up at sentencing in a Porsche; start selling your vacation homes,
KNOWLEDGE
- How you present yourself to your Probation Officer, who is responsible for interviewing and investigating you, is crucial because they have the ear of your Judge, so Be (Get) Prepared.
- That same officer will recommend your sentence and placement to your Judge.
- What are you doing to prepare for your Presentence Interview
- What prison do you and your attorney feel is best for you –make the placement request before and during the Interview (PSI),
