The Trump administration has assigned over 20 IRS agents to patrol alongside city police officers in Washington, D.C., as part of the president’s plan to reduce crime in the capital, according to a report by Reuters. The report indicated that the Trump administration has made significant cuts to the Internal Revenue Service’s criminal investigation unit and has also reassigned some agents from that unit to focus more on immigration cases.

The report noted that US attorneys’ offices are unlikely to enforce tax laws effectively, as over 1,000 lawyers have left this year, double the usual rate. David Hubbert from NYU’s Tax Law Center commented to Reuters.
